A Streaks app alternative that runs everywhere

Streaks is one of the best-made habit apps there is. Most people who go looking for an alternative are not unhappy with it — they have simply ended up with a phone, a laptop or a household that Streaks does not run on.

What Streaks gets right

It is a genuinely beautiful, focused app, and its pricing is the cleanest in the category: $5.99 once on the US App Store, with no in-app purchases listed. In a market that has drifted towards ten-dollar-a-month subscriptions and price-tested annual tiers, that deserves saying out loud.

Its own description is exactly what it delivers — "the to-do list that helps you form good habits" — and it holds 4.8 stars from 27,000 ratings on the US App Store. Widgets, complications and a watch app make ticking something off about as frictionless as it gets on Apple hardware.

It is also unusually honest about its own mechanic. The site says plainly: "Don't break the chain, or your streak will reset to zero days", and it offers scheduling as the answer — "Some tasks aren't for every day. Set the days so you don't break your streak!" No marketing sleight of hand.

Why people look for a Streaks alternative

The commonest reason is not a feature at all. Streaks is Apple-only: its own site says it is "available for iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro." Switch to Android, want to tick things off from a work laptop, or share a system with a partner who is not on an iPhone, and the app is simply not there.

The second is the ceiling. Streaks tells you up front you can "choose or create up to 24 tasks." For most people that is plenty. For someone rebuilding several parts of life at once — training, sleep, money, reading, the calls you stopped making — it starts to bind, and it forces you to delete one thing to add another.

The third is the unplanned bad week. Scheduling covers the days you know about, which is Streaks' documented answer and a good one. It does not cover the fortnight the whole household is ill, and by the site's own wording the chain then resets to zero days.

Side by side, with sources

Every Streaks row comes from streaksapp.com or its US App Store listing, checked on 9 August 2026. Where Streaks is the better buy — and on price it plainly is — the table says so.

When you should just buy Streaks

  • If everything you own has an Apple logo on it. Streaks on a watch face is a better daily experience than any browser tab, ours included.
  • If you want to pay once and own it. $5.99 forever is a clean deal; ours is free, but it is a web app that lives on our servers, not a purchase you keep.
  • If your list is short and stable. Under 24 straightforward daily habits, in an Apple household, is precisely the job Streaks was built to do.
  • If you dislike accounts on principle. We need one to sync across devices; Streaks does not ask you for one.

What Life Tracker does differently

It runs wherever you are

A browser tab on a work laptop, an Android phone, an iPad, a borrowed computer. Nothing to install, the same account everywhere, and no platform decision to regret later.

No task ceiling to design around

Habits and life areas are unlimited. You never have to delete one goal in order to add another.

A bad week you did not plan does not reset anything

Set a pause window when the household gets ill and the run waits for you. Scheduled off-days cover the predictable part, exactly as they do in Streaks; the pause covers the rest.

More than yes-or-no

Number targets (weight, steps, savings) with a start, a current value and a target; one-off tasks with due dates; checklists that run once or repeat weekly.

Structure above the list

Life areas make the neglected part of your life visible — which a flat grid of tiles, however well drawn, cannot do.

Offline tracking, then sync

Ticking off habits, counters, number goals and checklists all keep working with no connection, and save on your device until you are back online.

Questions people actually ask

Is Streaks available on Android or on the web?

No. The Streaks site lists iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. That is the single most common reason people go looking for an alternative, and it is a design decision rather than a shortcoming — the app is deliberately built for Apple platforms and is better for it.

How much does Streaks cost compared with Life Tracker?

Streaks is a $5.99 one-time purchase on the US App Store, with no in-app purchases listed. Life Tracker is free: unlimited habits and life areas, no card, no subscription; the AI features run on your own OpenAI or Anthropic key, so you pay your provider directly. If you are on Apple hardware and want a watch-face tracker, buy Streaks.

How many habits can I track?

Streaks says up to 24 tasks. Life Tracker has no cap on habits or life areas, which matters if you are rebuilding several parts of life at once rather than polishing one.

What happens when I miss a day?

In Streaks, by its own wording, an unscheduled miss resets the streak to zero days, and the documented protection is to schedule each task only on the days it applies. Life Tracker does the same with schedules and adds a pause window you can set in advance. Worth knowing before you shop around: forgiving streaks are common now — Habitify documents a Skip and a scheduled Off Mode, Finch documents Pause Mode and Streak Repairs — so this is a reason to compare, not a reason to assume we are alone.

Can I move my Streaks history across?

Not automatically — there is no import from Streaks, and pretending otherwise would waste your evening. In practice people recreate the handful of habits that matter and start the run again, which takes about ten minutes. Your Life Tracker data can be exported at any time, so you are not walking into the same lock-in twice.

Can I get Life Tracker from an app store?

No. Life Tracker is a web app — a PWA — with no App Store or Google Play listing: you use it in a browser and can add it to your home screen. That is a real trade-off (no store listing, no watch app), and it is also why it works identically on an iPhone, an Android phone and a work laptop.
